Sleeves Rolled Up is a podcast produced by The Salvation Army New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. While you may know The Salvation Army for our op shops or handing out food parcels, what you might not know is that we’re involved in so much more. Our strong social justice focus informs our work, work such as reintegrating people back into society after they are released from prison, building social housing communities, supporting people experiencing homelessness, advocating for social change at government level, releasing research papers about social issues, giving people a hand up through our wraparound services and so much more! We hope you enjoy listening to these interviews with our guests who are determined to see people’s lives transformed through their respective roles within The Salvation Army.

Ever wondered how a foodbank operates behind the scenes? We were fortunate enough to chat with Joel Williams, team leader at Manukau Community Ministries, one of the busiest Salvation Army foodbanks in New Zealand.
We discuss:
- how the foodbank operates and gets enough food for the community
- the impact a food parcel can have on someone's life
- maintaining wellbeing when working in an environment that can be highly emotional
It was awesome talking to Joel about his passion for this work - enjoy the episode!
